More Blood Axe shenanigans

I have 28 boys which I will divide into two mobs, and I'm going to try and stick to batch painting a handful of troops and a personality to keep things rolling.
These guys are part of the previous squad/mob, and I chose the Mekboy as the accompanying character.
One Ork per mob may take a special or heavy weapon, and while I toyed with the idea of a flamer I wanted these guys to have a heavy.
The pieces I had to choose from were a heavy bolter, heavy stubber or the ridiculously destructive yet relatively short ranged multimelta...that wasn't too hard a decision!
Though the stubber did look the best, the in-game usefulness of the multimelta sealed the deal.

The two plastics really turned out well and were an absolute piece of piss to paint, they fit in very well with the metals I think.
This army has a heavier smattering of early Rogue Trader minis in it than my other Ork clans, and my next update will have a couple of the one piece metals in it.

Until then!

The Boyz are back in town

I've been in another one of those lulls recently, where despite painting almost every day it seems like I've had nothing to show for it.
There's been a lot of prep work and stock taking, jars of Dettol and sifting through "the pile" too.

Of note I got myself a multi compartment storage box and transferred all my unpainted Space Orks stuff from their various Chinese Food containers into it and sorted my big bag of arms into pairs- having everything together and on hand ( like I do for my Marines) has gotten me focused again.

A week or so ago I rebased and painted up a heap more Heroquest Orcs and Goblins to add to the monster pool, and this reminded me how much I enjoy painting Greenskins.

So, after selecting my Clan of choice and shaking up the Chaos Black spray-can, I knocked these fellas out over the course of 3 nights.

Blood Axe Nob and 5 boyz, which is half of the first of two squads I have of them.
Bosses, Oddboyz and some tracked vehicles will be following.

I wanted to downplay the "Red Edition" paint scheme as much as I could with these guys, but I think it might be ingrained in me- I didn't give them red boltas so that's gotta count for something, right?

Classic Space Marine Scout Sergeant

I saw some metal Space Marine Scouts on a friend's workbench the other day and it triggered something...once I got home I went to "the pile", dug some Scouts out and gave them an undercoat.

I remembered seeing some of Bryan Ansell's collection on the Eldritch Epistles blog and headed over there to browse the galleries (as you do) and decided I would try and emulate the Advanced Space Crusade Plastic Sergeant in the Blood Angels colour scheme.

Here's my attempt:
and the original:

Not an exact replication, but I'm more than happy with him.
I'm not sure wether I'll use plastic or metal (or a mix of both) minis for his squad...

Another quick one: Elf hero for questing

After painting the Dwarf Champion the other day I've been in the mood to paint some more fantasy stuff, and this Elf seemed a good candidate.

It's another mini I picked up in a trade, I'm not too familiar with the WHFB Elf range but it says 97 on the tab and I'll go out on a limb and say he was sculpted by Jes Goodwin.
He was an evening's work.
Like his mates in the first picture, he's supposed to be a levelled up version of the garden variety Heroquest dude, sp Heroquest Vulgaris.

While out in the garden taking photos of the gang I couldn't help but snap a couple of pictures of my commanding officers, who rarely let me out of their sight.
They're watching me as I type this...

Bryan, AKA Bartle Snufflepupugus.

Joy, AKA Jibbles McWoo ( with trusty flowerpot )

Prince Ulther's Imperial Dwarfs Champion

Just a small update this time...

I recently acquired this lovely mini in a trade and went straight to work on him.

The paintjob is pretty faithful to the Regiments Of Renown box art, I'm in the process of painting a shield for him.

I only have a few old Citadel Dwarfs, geez they are great miniatures.

Blood Angels recap

I recently did a refurb on an old skool Predator and have just (almost) finished a vintage Rhino, so I thought it might be time to take stock of my Blood Angels so far.

First up, the new additions:
A previously black/dark grey Predator that Captain Crooks procured for me.
I haven't had the heart to remove and replace the iconography yet.
Yeah baby! Classic Rhino APC
I must say I am pretty proud of myself for painting on the white symbols...I hate white
The Rhino before I started work.
I bought this still in the plastic wrap 5 years ago, and only recently took it out to geez inside.
Frustratingly, when I did I must have popped one of the headlights off the sprue and didn't realise this until I came to paint and assemble the kit! (missing headlight circled in red)
FUUUUUUUCCCCKKK!!!
Thanks again to Captain Crooks I should have a replacement part soon, and I'll add the headlights and auto launchers then.
Thanks again Champion!

I have added a metal Sergeant and a few extra Marines to make a full tactical squad of Space Crusade minis.
I plan to replace the missile launcher guy with a multimelta armed one from Mission Dreadnought.
The multimelta is bad news in 2nd edition 40K!
Bad news indeed.
Some scenery my brother has painted up.
Monopose Monstrosities go now!
Brother Captain Erasmus Tycho (again)
My alternate Commander, Gabriel Valerio
Techmarine
Apothecary
Librarian

A Devastator Squad and Terminators should be coming soon.

A Blood Angels Librarian

White Dwarf #166: my first issue.

There are a few Space Marine miniatures shown in there that for me are absolutely iconic, and this is my version of one of them.
 That's a Marine Librarian, friends.

He only took an hour or two to paint, I've since put some burnished gold on the emblem on his tome as it just looks brown in this picture.

Here is the version from #166 and the 2nd edition rulebook
I have a banner pole lined up for him but need to source that banner.
I'll get around to it.

These are the other minis I referenced, unfortunately I don't have these guys in my collection (yet) but one day I'll get my grubby mits on them, mark my words.
That banner (above) is one of the coolest things I've ever seen.
A far cry from the modern Apothecary with all the crap that hangs off them and their backpack!

Back with more Blood Angels soon...
